“I am not exactly sure what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life?’ Rather he will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?’”
– Mother Teresa

Valere holds a Doctor of Chiropractic and a B.A. in Open Studies. She has been on the SD Governor’s Advisory Board for Developmental Disabilities since 2017 and is currently Vice Chairperson. She has also been a member of the SD DD Council for 6 year (4 years as Chairperson). She is a Year 16 graduate of the Partners in Policymaking program. Some of her accomplishments include receiving an Elk Point, SD Parent of the Year Award and a Women of Excellence Award.

Val joined the DRSD Board in 2017—she currently holds the role of Vice President. Val enjoys being a part of DRSD because she can help maintain and further develop programs to support the needs of people with disabilities in South Dakota.

Val and her husband have raised 10 children, many with special needs. Most of her children are adults now and have moved out. However, if she had a chance, Val says that she would happily do it all again. She says, “I may have to find another husband, but I personally would start all over again.” She also has three dogs. In her free time, Valere enjoys cooking, canning, music, and helping her children and grandchildren.
